James W. Boarman

James William (Jim Bill) Boarman, 75, of Utica, died Tuesday, January 29, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 21, 1937, in Daviess County to the late Hugh and Grace Rapier Boarman. Jim Bill attended Owensboro Catholic High School, served in the Navy Reserves, was a member of the following: Knights of Columbus in Sorgho, French Island Marina and St. Stephen Cathedral. He was a partner in Boarman Brothers Farms and owner of Boarman Excavating and Dozer. In his early years he enjoyed participating in the Great Ohio River Flatboat Races as one of the Daviess County Plowboys, and competing in the tug-of-war events. First and foremost Jim Bill was a loving husband and father. His work ethic, drive and zest for life was like no other. He loved his life and his family and it showed through his energy and enthusiasm every single day. Jim Bill loved his wife dearly and they raised their daughters in a home filled with love. He had a strong faith in God and Catholicism. Jim Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and entertaining friends at his cabin on the river. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Terry and Leon Boarman and his sister, Mary Ellen Boarman.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Iva Sue Boarman; daughters, Deborah (David) Mudd of Owensboro, Maria (Randy) Toth of Owensboro, Jennifer (Bill) Bergner of Knoxville, TN, Vickie Boarman Roberts of Owensboro and Jamie (Keith) Kirby of Greenwood, IN; grandchildren, Bridget, April and Danielle Goetz, David Lawrence Mudd, Jessica and Jason Toth, Ashley, Shelby, and Taylor Bergner, Tyler, Blake and Samantha Roberts, and Allie and Ivy Kirby; great-grandchildren, Chase and Brice Coomes and Sophia and Channing Wilson; siblings, Kenny (Johanna) Boarman, Mike Boarman, John Boarman, Pat (Judy) Boarman, and Dennis Boarman all of Owensboro, Kathleen (Paul) Boarman of San Francisco and Mary Lou (Bill) Whitt of Waco, KY; sister-in-laws, Bonnie Lanham, Lynn Boarman and Alice Boarman; cousin and best friend Mark (Linda) Rapier of Springboro, OH; and many nieces and nephews

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and after 11 a.m. on Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Saint Mary Magdalene Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Diabetes Association, the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center, or the Passionist Nuns.
