James A. "Tony" Blandford, 58, of Owensboro, passed away very suddenly Friday, November 18, 2016 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born August 30, 1958 in Daviess Co. to the late William D. and Joyce Mattingly Blandford. Tony was a professional engineer and licensed surveyor, had formerly worked for Texas Gas for 28 years, and was currently with Southern Star Central Pipeline for the past eight years. His co-workers were family to him. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Tony was a 1976 graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and a 1980 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He was an avid U.K. sports fan, enjoyed woodworking, family vacations, running, dark chocolate, and D.M.D. Tony's love was his greatest gift to God, his wife, family, and friends and he would always place others before himself. He would help anyone in need and was never a stranger to them. Tony was also preceded in death by a brother, Bill Blandford, Jr. on August 22, 1990 and a grandson, Grayson James Blandford on July 23, 2015.
Surviving are his wife of 16 years, Debbie Blandford, children, Chris Blandford (Katie) of Owensboro, Greg Blandford (Ryann) of Union, David Sturgeon, Jr. (Lorraine) of Owensboro, Sara Hodge (Jonathan) of Newburgh, IN, and Taylor Sturgeon (Kannetha) of Owensboro, 10 grandchildren, Trey, Jasmine, Kyle, Brayden, Kaelyn, Carter Jo, Myles, Kason, Isabelle, and Maddox, a sister, Rhonda Tipton (Buddy) of Owensboro, two brothers, Tim Blandford (Penny) and Ron Blandford (Elaine), all of Owensboro, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, November 21, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with burial following in St. Alphonsus Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday with prayers and tributes at 6:00 P.M. and from 8:00-9:30 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
