James Robert "Bobby" Bivins, 86, of Yelvington, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born September 27, 1929 in Hancock Co., to the late James Carl and Mary Ellen Duncan Bivins. He had worked at Green River Steel and had farmed all his life. Bobby was still very active on the farm and, at harvest time, he enjoyed riding in the combine with his longtime friend, Herschel Horn. He was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, loved his church very much, and currently had been a member there the longest of anyone at 82 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War and had been stationed in Germany. Bobby loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Gloria Dean Morris Bivins on July 18, 2008, and two brothers, Billy and John Bivins.
Surviving are his children, three sons, Robert Bivins and wife Sharon of Fredericksburg, VA, Richard Bivins and wife Janice of Maceo, and Gary Bivins and wife Jennifer of Owensboro, a daughter, Susan Gaddis and husband Robbie of Owensboro, nine grandchildren, Mike and Joe Hartman, both of Houston, TX, Storm Williams of Orlando, FL, Rick Rickard and Stephanie Bivins, both of Maceo, Christina Lowe of Owensboro, Sgt. 1st Class Clint Bivins, U. S. Army, stationed in Germany, Casey Bivins of Owensboro, and Sarah Fitzgerald of Whitesville, 25 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 21, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 1:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday and after 8:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
