James E. "Jim" Beech

James E. "Jim" Beech, 87, of Philpot, passed away on June 22, 2024, to join the Lord. Born on May 14, 1937, in Shelby County, TN, he was the son of the late Malvin Wayne and Euree Mangum Beech. Jim graduated from Owensboro High School in 1955 and earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1960. Since 1972, Jim was a faithful member of Providence United Methodist Church.

Jim's working life began with delivering newspapers. During high school, he worked for Harry Holder Motor Company, and throughout college, he spent summers as a surveyor for Texas Gas. He started his full-time career at Texas Gas as a Junior Engineer in the training program, eventually holding several positions over his 35-year tenure that involved extensive travel along the pipeline. His final title was Manager of Pipeline Safety, Codes, and Procedures.

After retiring, Jim spent a year assisting with the planning and construction of a new sanctuary at Providence UMC. He then worked as a consultant (affectionately known by some as an "insultant") for Texas Gas/Williams Pipeline for another ten years. Jim served on several industry committees and was a member of numerous professional organizations. Additionally, he was the Treasurer and a board member for Providence UMC for many years.

In his spare time, Jim, along with family and friends, built their home, helped construct two homes at Rough River, and assisted in rebuilding a country home for his parents. He enjoyed working around the farm with his tractor, John Deere Gator, and mower. Most of all, he cherished spending time with family and conversing with his many friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Johnson Beech; sons, Wayne Edward Beech (Lynn) and Lynn Alan Beech (Rebecca); grandchildren, Thomas A. Beech, Patrick W. Beech, Rory Angelina Beech, Amanda Sturgill, Devin A. Beech (Brooke) and Hunter L. Beech; and a great-grandchild, Alice Barbara Beech.

The funeral service for Jim Beech will be held at 12 pm Monday, July 1, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with visitation from 10 am until the time of service. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Providence United Methodist Church, 7610 Short Station Road. Philpot KY 42366.
