James L. Sonny Batman, 62, of Owensboro died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Born December 19, 1944 in Daviess County, Mr. Batman was the son of the late James Stewart and Virginia Lee Simmons Batman; he was of the Catholic faith, a member of the National Guard, and he retired from Bell South.

Sonny enjoyed retirement, woodworking, operating heavy equipment, traveling, farming, eating breakfast with his Hardees buddies, piddling on the farm and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Batman.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Brown Batman; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Pat Merritt of Philpot, Leah and Joe Christian of Philpot, Christy and Mark Embry of Owensboro, Brandi and Jamie Grant of Philpot and Brooklyn and Matt Hagan of Owensboro; his mother-in-law, Catherine Brown, his step-children and their spouses, Jeff and Tina Connor of Hawesville, Brian and Annette Connor of Philpot, Brad and Laura Connor of Hawesville and Jennifer Connor of Owensboro; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Gary Calhoun, Sharon and Bill Bishop and Bonnie and Bill Drewer, all of Owensboro; eight grandchildren and eight step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at Precious Blood Catholic Church with Father Dave Johnson and Father Brad Whistle officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home. Prayers will be said Monday evening at 6:00 p.m.
