James John Auxier

March 16, 1944 — October 17, 2014

James J. Auxier, Sr., 70, of Owensboro passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Born in Chicago, IL on March 16, 1944, he was the son of the late Denver and Virginia Heldt Auxier; was of the Catholic faith; and retired from AFLAC as an insurance salesman in 1996. Mr. Auxier moved to Owensboro from West Lafayette, IN in 1984 as a Sales Manager for General Electric. He was a graduate of Ball State University and a man with a tremendous sense of humor and wit. He lived for spending time with his granddaughters and his grand-puppy, Millie and loved playing euchre and golf. In addition to his parents, Mr. Auxier was preceded in death by his best friend, Claude Chew.

Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Sheila Steuer Auxier; a son, James J. Auxier, Jr. at home; a daughter, Denise Jane Townsend and her husband Brian of Columbus, OH; granddaughters, Audrey Grace Townsend and Ashley Kate Townsend; brothers, Denver Auxier and his wife Judy of Venice, FL and Omer and his wife Cheryl of New Castle, IN; nephews and a niece, Jay (Patty) Auxier and David Auxier of FL, and Brian Auxier and Nancy Paul of IN; and a special uncle Voris Auxier and his wife Anna of St. James, MO; many cousins; and a host of friends, especially, George Stockton and his "adoptive
daughter", Kim Short.

Services will be private.
