James Darrell Arnold

April 26, 1950 — September 4, 2009

James Darrell Arnold, 59, of Owensboro passed away Friday, September 4, 2009 at his home. Born April 26, 1950 in Fordsville, he was the son of the late Jesse Ben and Gola Stone Arnold; was a mechanic with Mattingly Automotive for 20 years; and was a member of Seven Hills Baptist Church where he was a deacon and played the guitar for the music program. He was also the "garage minister"providing transportation to church and fixing anyone's car so they could get to church at no charge. He also loved NASCAR and gospel music and was a Navy veteran. Mr. Arnold was kind and generous, always put the needs of others first. His joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Arnold was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Ben Arnold, Jr. and a sister, Linda Carol Arnold.

Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Mary Stallings Arnold; a daughter, Kelly (Jerry) Gibson of Philpot; sons, Michael Arnold and Jess Arnold of Owensboro, James D. Arnold, Jr., Brian A, Arnold and Justin E. Arnold all of Rhode Island, and his nephew, Andrew (Stephanie) Stallings of Morgantown whom he loved as a son; grandchildren, Haley Gibson, Ethan Gibson, Lindsey Gibson, and Parker Stallings; brothers, Pete (Gail) Arnold and Roger (Patricia) Whitler of Owensboro, and John (Rita) Whitler of Maryland; aunts, Anna Coffield of Owensboro and Vonnie (Ray) Himes of Hartford; several nieces and nephews; and countless friends.

Services are 12 noon, Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at Seven Hills Baptist Church with Dr. Bob Coons officiating followed by burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford. Visitation will be from 1-6 p.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Seven Hills Baptist Church.
