James Rollie "J.R." Ambrose, 86, of Philpot, passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at his home. He was born on January 9, 1926 in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Rollie and Golda Richardson Ambrose. He was involved in farming for many years and also was a dairy farmer. J.R. was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II where he was a crewman on an L.S.T. and served in the South Pacific. He was a very giving person and a very loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Branson Ambrose on March 16, 2012 and three sisters, Maude Chapman, Louanna Williams, and Mabel Ambrose.
Surviving are his daughters, Janet Ambrose of Philpot and Ronda Nelson and husband Dan of Rineyville, KY, his son, James David Ambrose of Philpot, two grandchildren, Alexandra and MacLaren Williams, both of Rineyville, and three sisters, Susie Cook of Philpot, and Melba Salmon and Vivian DeJarnette, both of Owensboro.
Services will be 12 Noon Saturday, April 21 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
