James "Perry" Alvey, 77, of Owensboro, passed away at his home on May 3, 2024. Perry was born in Daviess County on July 25, 1946. He attended Owensboro Catholic High School and later joined the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he studied at Brescia University, obtaining a bachelor's degree in accounting. Perry spent more than 45 years at Ken-Tron Manufacturing, serving as both the Director of Human Resources and the Purchasing Manager. He was a member of the American Legion Post 9 and VFW Post 696.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Perry enjoyed college basketball and professional football. He was a dedicated supporter of UK sports and the Green Bay Packers. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing intramural basketball. His true passion, however, was golf, and enjoying the 19th hole at “church”.
Perry cherished the moments he spent with his family, often seen as the grill master at Sunday family gatherings, always with a KT and Coke in hand. He treasured the lunches with his children and every minute spent with his grandchildren.
Perry was known for his laid-back demeanor and his natural ability to make friends with everyone he met. He faced life's challenges without complaint, and even as his health began to decline, he remained positive, reassuring those around him that he was doing just fine. His enduring optimism and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Alvey, and siblings, Ken Alvey, Gene Alvey, and Beverly Alvey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 28 years, Helen Alvey; children, John Alvey (Tessa), Jennifer Alvey, Sonny Taylor (Alice), and Lauren Taylor (Tara); brothers, Doug Alvey and Louie Alvey; and 11 loving grandchildren.
The memorial service with military honors for Perry Alvey will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38015.
