Jakob Brettl, 71, of 1232 Woodlawn Ave., Owensboro died Wednesday May 2, 2001 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Brestowatz, Yugoslavia on May 10, 1929, he was the son of the late Franz Brettl and Maria Dietrich Brettl. Mr. Brettl was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Couch Brettl and four children.
Mr. Brettl retired from Firestone Tire & Rubber Co. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church, American Legion # 0009, VFW # 696 and Amvets, # 75. He was a veteran of World War II and Korean War. His hobbies included working with Meals on Wheels, gardening, knife sharpening and being with family.
He is survived by three sons, Herbert Brettl of Cincinnati, OH, Michael Brettl of Decatur, IL, Brian Brettl of Owensboro; six daughters, Eva Gailliez of Monroe, Mich., Therece Jorgensen of Clovis, CA, Katrina LeVeck of Warrensburg, IL, Kimberly Rinehart of Oswego, IL, Victoria Helms of Richland, IN, Beverly Blust of Decatur, IL; 19 grandchildren; and one sister, Maria Sabolowitch of Yaro, British Columbia.
His family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m Friday May 4, 2001 at Glenn Funeral Home. His family will also receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Monday May 7, 2001 at Brintlingers Funeral Home in Decatur, IL. The funeral service for Mr. Brettl will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday May 7, 2001 at Brintlingers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
