J. Frank Dearness

J. Frank Dearness, 68, of 2701 Frederica Street, Owensboro, died Tuesday, March 19, 2001, at his home. Born October 19, 1932 in Holyoke, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Joseph Frances Dearness and Francis Hill Dearness.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, and the holder of a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Connecticut, Mr. Dearness had served from 1975 until his retirement in 1990 as the Executive Director of the Green River Comprehensive Care Center. He had previously served as Assistant Commissioner of Mental Health for the State of Tennessee. He was a member of the Friendship force and a former member of the Owensboro Rotary Club and the Board of Directors of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.

He is survived by four daughters, Jennifer Dearness of Miami, Florida, Laura Dearness of Scottsdale, Arizona, Patricia Turcotte of East Hampton, Massachusetts, and Cynthia Smalley of Chicopee, Massachusetts; two grandchildren; and three sisters, Carol Houle of Chicopee, Massachusetts, Virginia Zimmer of Walker, Minnesota, and Joan Kidd of Wykoff, Minnesota.

The family will receive visitors from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Friday, and after 9 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday in the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra.
