J. W. Bowlds, 81, of Haines City, Fla., formerly of Owensboro. passed away on Monday, July 3, 2006 at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fla. He was born in Daviess Co., Ky. to the late Charles W. & Myrtle Elizabeth Haynes Bowlds. He was a member of Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church and was retired as Superintendent of the Owensboro Catholic Diocese Cemeteries which includes Mater Dolorosa and Resurrection Cemeteries. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Pius X and enjoyed woodworking and golfing.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Emogene Jones Bowlds, his son and wife, Joseph Ronald & Paula Bowlds of Orlando, Fla., three grandchildren, Jean Marie Phillips of St. Cloud, Fla., Penny Lorene Kibler of Orlando, and Joseph Ronald Bowlds II of Winter Park, Fla., seven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild, four brothers, Frank Bowlds and Charles R. Bowlds, both of Owensboro, Thomas G. Bowlds of Rockport, In., and Donald Bowlds of St. Louis, Missouri, five sisters, Doris Ross of Albuquerque, N. M., Marie Hardesty of Louisville, and Joan Roberts, Margie Jones, and Nina Murphy, all of Owensboro.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 8 at Sts. Joseph & Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will be in St. Anns Chapel Mausoleum in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Friday with prayers at 6:00 P.M. and after 8:30 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home.
