Ivan C. Phelps, age 73, passed away Friday, May 14th at Riverside Manor in Calhoun, KY. After a courageous fight with Parkinson's Disease for many years, he leaves to be re-united with his parents, Noah and Golda Duke Phelps. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Irene Phelps Renfrow and Yvonne Phelps, and a brother, Eli Phelps. He retired from Yarden Center. In addition to his love of horticulture, he was an avid NASCAR and UK fan.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Purcell Phelps; sons, Michael Phelps of Owensboro, Keith Phelps of Elizabethtown, KY, and Aaron (Jenny) Phelps of Owensboro; and a daughter, Leila (Stanley) Higgs of Owensboro. He is also survived by brothers, J.V. (Corrine) Phelps of Owensboro and Larry (Liz) Phelps of Owensboro; a brother-in-law, Howard Renfrow of Brooklyn, KY; and his sisters, Dee (Terry) Rhoads of Stanley, KY, and Juanita Cessna of Stanley, KY. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Ivan's family would like to extend an invitation to join them in fellowship, and pay respects, at a memorial service at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory at 2 p.m. on Monday. Gathering will begin at 1 p.m..
