Iva Ruth Catlett Harrington, 86, was born to Alpha Mae and Herbert Earl Catlett on Sept. 5, 1939, in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. She was the sixth of seven children in her family. Her daddy died when she was just seven years old. Her mother worked hard to raise her big family and filled the home with love.
Iva met Ronald David Harrington in the 6th grade and they became fast friends from the very start. He adored his little red-headed girl. They started dating when they were both 15 years old and married on Aug. 27, 1960. Their wedding was the first service in the newly remodeled sanctuary of Jeffersontown Baptist Church. The Lord blessed them with three girls who they treasured and loved unconditionally. In 2025, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Iva completed secretarial training at Spencerian College and worked part-time to support several churches and other offices when her three girls were growing up. Ron has served in the music and worship ministry for 60 years, and Iva served faithfully at his side. She supported him and his ministry in every way - decorating for banquets and luncheons for the Young at Heart, singing in the choir and in the Living Cross, cooking and hosting numerous events, and loving the people in the churches they served. Most recently they have served together at Yellow Creek Baptist Church for 33 years, where they are dearly loved.
On Tuesday morning, March 10, 2026, Iva departed this life peacefully to join her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to rest in His never ending love.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, Alpha Catlett Ruckriegel and Herbert Earl Catlett; and her step-father, Harry Joseph Ruckriegel; her sister, Margaret Way, her twin brothers, David and Daniel Catlett; along with two infant brothers; her daughter, Kara Lynnette Roberson and her grandson, David Anthony Rodgers.
Iva is survived by her loving husband, Ronald David Harrington; her sister, Frances Henderson, her daughters, Ronda Ann (Tony) Rodgers, Amy Jo (Mike) Green, and her son-in-law Ray Roberson; her grandchildren, Amy Lynnette Rodgers, Kristy Carol Rodgers, Benjamin Ray (Molly) Roberson, Joshua Jay Roberson, Maddox Harrington Green, Jordan Michael Green, Lacey Michelle (Willys) Hames, and Emily Kellett Green; as well as her great-grandchildren, Blaine, Judson, and Levi Rodgers, Callie, Annalynn, and Hadley Rodgers, Rowan, Magee, and Grady Roberson, Sophie Veatch, Carson Canada, Jaycie and Jarrett Helms.
The service celebrating Iva’s life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12 noon at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. There will be visitation from 9 a.m. to noon that morning, at the church. Interment will take place following the service at the Yellow Creek Cemetery. Care by Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
Expressions of love may be shared through donations to the Young at Heart Ministry of Yellow Creek Baptist Church, a ministry close to Iva’s heart.
