Irl Raymond Abshier

Irl Raymond Abshier, 91, of Owensboro joined his wife of 69 years, Beatrice Jolly Abshier in eternal bliss on Wednesday, December 21, 2011. They were inseparable in life and are now joined for eternity.

Born in Richland City, Indiana on September 14, 1920, he was the son of the late Charles O. and Melva Hagan Abshier. He served our country as an Army Sergeant from 1942 thru 1946 serving in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. Following his time in the service, Irl worked at Griffin Electric and then Dynalectric for 38 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 41 years. Mr. Abshier enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, jigsaw puzzles, and most importantly, spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Beatrice Jolly Abshier on February 22, 2011; his son, Danny Abshier; sisters, Emma Gardner, Margaret Parker and Betty Truman; and brothers George Abshier and Charles "Todd" Abshier.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Joyce Abshier; granddaughters, Dane' (Kevin) Galloway and Amanda (Bill) Rogers both of Owensboro, and great-grandchildren, Corey Abshier, Kurt Galloway, Nate Rogers, and Emma Rogers.

Services are 12 noon, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. David Hocker officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Immanuel Baptist Church.
