Irene Adams Parr, 95, went home to Jesus on August 1, 2014. Irene was born on July 30, 1919 in Salyersville, KY to the late Carl and Vaude Adams. She was the oldest of seven children and put herself through beauty school in Indianapolis, IN. Irene owned and operated her own beauty salon in Owensboro, KY during World War II.
Irene was married to the late George William Parr from May 7, 1943 until his death in 1984. She was preceded in death by her only son, Larry William Parr of Owensboro and a sister, Alma Adams McDonald. The Parr Family owned and operated Parr Trucking Service in Owensboro from 1958 until 1995. Irene enjoyed entertaining in her home, traveling, cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, and was involved with the Widowed Persons Club.
Irene is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judith Brantley Parr of Birmingham, AL, her three grandchildren, Jennifer Parr Piercy of Wake Forest, NC, Renae Parr McCullough of Kalamazoo, MI, and Lance William Parr of Maumee, OH, and seven great grandchildren. Her surviving sisters include Della Adams Crabtree of Phoenix, AZ and Una Mae Adams of Hopkinsville, and her three brothers, Roger, Jack, and Morris Adams, all of Owensboro.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 5, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
