Ira M. Hardy, 82, of Owensboro, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at his home. He was born September 25, 1928 to the late Robert and Irene Hardy in Daviess County. He was an Army Veteran and a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus, Father Connor Council. He retired from Bell South after 35 years of service, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, was an avid card player, and enjoyed fishing with his wife. He loved being with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Murry, and a brother, Dukie; a son-in-law, Mike Collignon.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth Ann Hardy; his children; Dr. Judith (Dr. Michael) McGuinn of Pueblo, CO, Donna (Richard) DeMar of Henderson, Sharon (David) Dukes, Sandy (Allen) Self, Scott (Tina) Hardy, Mary Lou (Mike) Jones, Barry (Helen) Hardy, all of Owensboro; twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Ellis Hardy and his wife, Doris of Owensboro; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Hardy of Owensboro.
Services will be 10:00 AM Monday at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church with burial in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, with prayers beginning at 4:30 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 7232 Hwy 56, Owensboro, KY 42301.
