Ina Menser Mitchell, 88, of Owensboro passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 in the Christian Healthcare Center in Bowling Green. Born in Lewisburg, KY on September 12, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Lula Shrum Stewart; was retired from the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where was a sales representative for many years; had worked at Texas Gas and the Owensboro Daviess County Hospital; and was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mitchell was past State President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority; was a Kentucky Colonel; was an avid UK basketball fan; but most importantly, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Ralph Menser in 1955 and Joseph Mitchell in 2009; a daughter, Linda Allen Ferguson; a brother, K.V. Stewart; and a sister, Frances Masters.
Surviving are daughters, Jean (Jim) Shively of Owensboro and Debra (Mark) Benton of Bowling Green; grandchildren, Stephanie (Mark) Luckett of Owensboro, James (Rachel) Allen of Springfield, MO, Christopher (Sandy) Allen of Carmel, IN, Melissa Allen of Henderson, and Steven Shively of Owensboro; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services are 10 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Darren Brandon officiating followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday and after 9 a.m. on Saturday.
