Ila Blythe Gordon Galloway, 95, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 in Owensboro. She was born March 5, 1917 in Daviess Co., the oldest child of the late James Otis & Effie Blythe Gordon. She graduated from Daviess Co. High School and worked at Ken-Rad before her marriage to Hugh W. Galloway, who preceded her in death in 1996 after 59 years of marriage.
She was a homemaker but also had worked with her husband at their business at Parkview Market in Owensboro.
Before the loss of her sight she was an excellent seamstress and also enjoyed cross stitching, needle point, quilting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
She had been a member of Owensboro Christian Women's Club, Owensboro Women's Club and was a volunteer for Widowed Persons Services. She had been a delegate to Cumberland Presbyterian Women's' Convention.
She was also preceded in death by sisters Edna Cornell and Margaret Collins. She is survived by daughters Marilyn (Bill) Van Winkle and Darla (Gary) Barker of Owensboro and Carolyn Kirkland of Ft Worth, Texas; grandchildren Julie (Bryan) Smith of Owensboro, Jon (Jenny) Hamilton and Josh (Katie) Kusch all of Louisville, Clay (Brendy) Kirkland of Burleson, Texas and Kay (David) Martin of The Woodlands, Texas; great-grandchildren Sydney and Wil Smith, Audrey Hamilton, Lily, Abraham, and Leo Kusch, Clayton, Abi and Alex Kirkland and Sarah and Elizabeth Martin; sisters Carolyn (John) Walger of Charlotte, North Carolina and Anna Ruth (Jim) Tilford of Louisville; brother Alvah Gene (Mary) Gordon of Camdenton, MO.
The family would like to express its appreciation to the staff at Heritage Place and Wellington Parc for the loving care they provided.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Rosehill Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church.
