Ida Jo Shouse Burg O'Bryan, 89, of 1405 First Street, Fern Terra, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007. The Sturgis, Kentucky native was born to the late Daniel and Glena (Johns) Shouse. A U.K. graduate, she was the Daviess County Extention agent for many years. A woman of Achievement, she was the first woman chosen by the Owensboro Business and Professional Woman's Club, she was a nominee of the American Association or University Women, she was involved with 4-H work and homemakers. The family life specialist held a bachelor of science degree in home economics from the University of Kentucky, was active in PTA work, held offices in DeMolay Mother's Club, served as den mother in Cub Scouts, and taught Sunday school classes at First Christian Church , where she was a member. She served a term as president of Christian Women's Fellowship and as a member on the board of deaconesses. In Owensboro she was a member of the AAUW and served on the scholarship committee of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority and appeared in Who's Who of American Women. The energetic professional woman, wife, and mother also had ample time for her "Most rewarding hobby", an ever growing list of birthdays and anniversaries. She remembered more than 300 friends and relatives each year in that special time of their life.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Allen George Burg and J. Henry O'Bryan.

Surviving are two sons; Dan Burg and wife Julie, and Ed Burg and former daughter-in-law, Nita Burg, all of Owensboro, granddaughters; Tracy (Mark) Elliott of Owensboro, April Burg of Louisville, Ky., and grandson; Kevin (Mary Lou) Burg of Canton, M.I., and 2 great-granddaughters.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Curran officiating. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Saturday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Christian Church.
