Hulbert Edward Phelps

October 18, 1926 — March 3, 2002

Hulbert Edward Shorty Phelps, 75, of 475 Bremen Mill Road, Bremen, Kentucky, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 at his home. He was born in Ohio County, Kentucky on October 18, 1926 the son of James and Janie Phelps. Two sons, Hulbert Rethal Phelps and Roy Cecil Phelps both preceded him in death in 1965. Two daughters, Shirley Faye Strader in 1987 and Kathy Faye Higdon on Jan. 3, 2002 also preceded him in death.

He was a retired logger and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Central City and enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include six sons, James Edward Phelps of Mt. Carmel, IL, Jerry Lewis Phelps of Princeton, IN, Larry Earl Phelps of Calhoun, KY Carroll Lee Phelps, Richard C. Phelps and Rickey Phelps all of Owensboro; four daughters, Janie Mae Payne of Austin, TX, Carolyn Kennedy of Mt. Carmel, IL, Debbie Sue Brooks of Sacramento, KY, and Mary Lou Stewart of Rosine, KY; four sisters, Agnes Hayes, Ida Faye Hayes and Magdalene Hayes all of Rosine, KY, and Lucy Phelps of Caneyville.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2002 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Ohio County, Kentucky. His family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2002 and after 9:00 a.m. Friday.
