Hugh Donald Wetzel

Hugh Donald Wetzel, 63, of Owensboro, Kentucky, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky to the late Hugh Thomas Wetzel and Lovie McGehee Wetzel Mitchell. Mr. Wetzel graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College, was a member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, spent twelve years on the Daviess County School Board, ten years as a Kentucky Wesleyan College trustee, and had served on many board of directors in the community including, the US Bank community advisory board, as president and board member at the Campbell Club, board member of Owensboro Country Club and a Family Y board member. He was a lifetime member and an advisor for the Sigma Nu fraternity. He was a charter member of the Food Marketing Institute, former President and CEO of Wetzel's Supermarkets Incorporated where he spent over 40 years in the grocery business, and President and CEO of the HDW Company.

He is survived by his wife Sara Ann Ireland Wetzel; children, Shannon Wetzel of Nashville, Tennessee, Melanie Wetzel Campo of Owensboro, Kentucky, and Hugh Ross Wetzel and his wife Jennifer of Nashville, Tennessee; his grandchildren, John Maxwell Campo, Gracie Love Campo and Annaross Elisabeth Wetzel; and his sister Judy Hatfield.

Services will be held on Monday at 2 p.m. in the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Wesleyan College or Settle Memorial United Methodist Church.
