Hugh Ray Hale, 81, of Philpot passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at his residence after battling Cancer. He was born in Cleaton, Kentucky to the late Hubert and Louise Hale.
Mr. Hale was a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1959.
He and Kenneth "Buck" Ware founded Hale, Riney and Gilmore, Inc. Land Surveying in 1969. (Now HRG) Prior to founding HRG he was employed at Johnson, Depp and Quisenberry. Mr. Hale was a lifetime member of Kentucky Association of Professional Surveyors and served as president from 1983- 1984. He was a longtime member of Bethabra Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and previously involved in Junior Achievement and T.P.A. He and his wife were avid travelers. They pulled a large R.V. through all 48 continental states and much of Canada. He also enjoyed camping, gardening, flowers and mowing his yard.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Heather Dawn Cox; a sister, Reba Jean Stevens and a brother, James Paul Hale.
Mr. Hale is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda Hale; daughters, Doris Cox (Jerry) of Owensboro and Sandra Zakroff (Bert) of Cape Giardeau, MO; grandsons, Joshua Cox (Nancy) of Owensboro, Jason Cox (Jennifer) of Owensboro; granddaughters, Caitlin Cox of Owensboro, Rochel Zakroff of Cape Giardeau, MO; grandson, Ari Zakroff of Cape Giardeau, MO; great grandson, Jacob Joseph Cox; great step granddaughter, Tiffiny Beard; great step grandson, James Eurcho; sister, Nancy Hawkins (Don "Whitey") of Madisonville and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Gerald Peeples and Dr. Herschel Morgan will officiate. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm and on Monday after 9:00 am at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethabra Baptist Church Building Fund.
