Hubert Mattingly, 98, of 218 E. 21st. Street, Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home. He was born in McLean Co., Ky. a member of the Sacramento Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and was the son of the late Elmer Cicero & Ida Ellen Higgs Mattingly. He was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II and enjoyed reading, McLean Co. history, and traveling. He was retired from the Owensboro School System after 43 years. He taught in Whitley Co., Ohio Co., McLean Co., and in Owensboro. He was the principal of the former Franklin Elementary School for 23 years. He also was a member of the Daviess Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., A.A.R.P., Kentucky Education Assoc., Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Phi Delta Kappa fraternity, and was a Ky. Colonel. He received an Associate Arts degree from Cumberland College in Whitley Co., Ky., a Bachelor of Arts degree and his masters degree from Western Ky. University, and an Education Specialist degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Doris Lynn Mattingly in 1949, three brothers, Bertram, Burness, & Ben Mattingly, and a sister, Beulah Rickard.
Surviving is his wife of 56 years, Frances Mattingly, his daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jane & Sam Jarvis of Macon, Ga., and several nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with committal service and burial at 11:00 A.M. Thursday in the Murray City Cemetery in Murray, Ky. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 9 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
