Hubert Lee Gibson, Sr., 78, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Daviess County on September 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Homer and Grace Norris Gibson; was retired from TVA where he worked for 30 years; was a member of the Center Street Baptist Church and was an Air Force veteran. Mr. Gibson enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Homer Gibson, Jr.
Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Betty Harris Gibson; a son, Hubert Lee Gibson, Jr. and his wife Brook of Owensboro; grandchildren, Halle Gibson and Brianna Gibson; a brother, Michael (Donna) Gibson of Louisville; sisters, Emma Jean (James) Young, Amanda Porter, Shirley Worthen, Phyllis (John) Akpan and Martha Gibson all of Owensboro; and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Services are 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastors W.E. Grubbs and John Morse officiating followed by entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens where military honors will be rendered by the Wright-Patterson AFB Honor Guard and VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday and after 12 noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
