Horace LaFoe Temple

Horace LaFoe "Sonny" Temple, 93, of Lewisport and Owensboro, passed away Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Hermitage. He was born in Owensboro on March 25, 1916 to the late Owen LaFoe and Lydia Smith Temple. After graduating from Lewisport High School in 1935, he attended Bowling Green Business College and worked in Owensboro before joining the U.S. Coast Guard in 1942. After his discharge in 1948, he attended the University of Oklahoma earning a petroleum engineering degree in 1949. Mr. Temple did engineering work in the Midwest and Kentucky oil industry for many years followed by evaluation work for the Internal Revenue Service. Upon his retirement he and his wife Elizabeth relocated to Lewisport and started Little Egypt Brittany Kennel, where they produced many championship dogs. He, with the late Jack Foster, was instrumental in establishing the Hancock County Museum and working with Richard Waitman helped start the Lewisport Farm Equipment Museum. He actively participated in many Hancock County community projects and was also active in genealogy research. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Elizabeth Head Temple.

Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law Richard (Dick) and Martina Temple and long time care giver and special friend Sheri Miller.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 pm until 8 pm at the Taylor Wood Funeral Home in Lewisport, Ky and after noon on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Hancock County Museum or First Presbyterian Church.
