Horace Eugene Mayfield, 68, of Owensboro, went into the arms of God on May 9, 2017 while at home and in the loving embrace of his devoted wife of 49 years, Pamelia Mayfield and eldest son, Bill Mayfield. He battled cancer in the most dignified manner possible for nine months. Born August 18, 1948 to the late William "Billy" and Audie Maye Mayfield, Horace was a U.S. Navy Veteran and had retired from Alcoa after more than 20 years. He was a devoted spouse, hard-working and dedicated father, and loving grandfather. Horace enjoyed antiquing, golf, and U.K. Basketball. He is preceded in death by infant daughter, Audie Kaye Mayfield and sister, Julia Anderson.
Horace and his wife Pamelia have four living children, William Hugh (Heather) Mayfield, Paul Christopher (Jill) Mayfield, Daniel Keith (Angela) Mayfield, Patricia Diane (Matt) Higdon; grandchildren, Austin Ryan Mayfield, Liam James Higdon, Catherine Marie Mayfield, Myles Tucker Higdon, Kiptyn Reese Mayfield, Cameron Joseph Mayfield soon expected grandchild, Kenton Alexander Mayfield; siblings, Norman (Judy) Anderson, Donna (Steve) Thomson, Karen (Neil) Dant, Becky (Tim) Pedley, Jeff (Becky) Mayfield, Dee Ann Brasher, Shelly Asberry, William (Nicole) Mayfield; step-mother, Sandy Mayfield, and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Carl McCarthy officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. Friday and 8:00 – 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:00 p.m. Friday.
