Hettie Bell (Smith) Sanders, 90, of Owensboro passed away Friday, January 8, 2016. She was born in Maxwell, Kentucky to the late Lee C. and Greek Smith.
Mrs. Sanders graduated as valedictorian of her class at Livermore High School and went to work at Ken-Rad (G.E.) for several years. She then dedicated her time to becoming a loving homemaker. Mrs. Sanders was a skilled seamstress who wouldn't settle on anything less than perfection. She was a longtime, active member of Crabtree Avenue Baptist Church where she was a primary Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Sanders also loved travelling, especially family vacations. She and her husband made it to 48 states, Mexico, Canada and parts of Europe.
Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by an infant sister, Goldie Mae Smith; a brother, Leamon Smith; and a brother-in-law, Carl Hayden.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Edgar B. Sanders; daughters, Linda Spinks and her husband, Barry, and Connie Hobby, both of Owensboro; sons, Kent Sanders of Hardinsburg, Kentucky and Steve Sanders and his wife, Christine of Madison, Alabama; six grandchildren, Karen Roberts and her husband, Wes, Stacey Johnson, Kim Mezur and her husband, Brian, Jeremy Kruger and his wife Tiffany, Nichole Lynn Sanders and Mollye Sanders; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Hayden of Calhoun; a brother, Darrell Smith and his wife, JoAnne; a sister-in-law, Martha Smith, both of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews.
The service will be at 12 Noon, Tuesday, January 12 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Wes Roberts will officiate. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3-8 PM and Tuesday after 10 AM at the funeral home.
