Herschel L. Koller, 77, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, July 4 at his home. Mr. Koller was born February 2, 1940 in Daviess County to the late Dugan and Pearl Nuttall Koller. Herschel graduated from Daviess County High School (Class of '58) and served in the United States Army. He attended trade school and became a diesel mechanic and worked for Whayne Supply where he retired after 37 years. He was a hard-working, unique individual, a problem solver and inventor quite adept at repairing, building, and designing. As a mechanic, he invented a safety feature for Caterpillar that kept mechanics safe while working on the engine. Herschel was a beekeeper, amateur HAM radio operator, and organic gardener. He was devoted to his faith and church.
Mr. Koller was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Herschel Koller and Stephen Lee Koller and a daughter, Tammy Jayne Koller; brother, Henry Koller and sister, Marcia Koller Carter.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 54 years, Violet Winona Davis Koller of Owensboro; daughters, Deborah Koller also of Owensboro and Robin Koller of Henderson; a son, Benjamin Koller and wife Tiffany also of Henderson; four grandchildren, Carson, Zachary, Achilles, and Thessaly Koller; two brothers, Clyde Koller and wife Betty Lou and Jerry Koller and wife Gladys; sister-in-law, Betty Ann Koller; several nieces, and nephews.
The service will be 10:00 AM Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Mr. Cal Culpepper officiating. Burial will be in the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Friday from 9:00 AM.
