Henry Leo Thompson, 87, of Owensboro, passed Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at his home. Born December 16, 1925, he was the son of the late Joseph Bernard and Anabel Wimsatt Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Angela Thomas Thompson; a daughter, June Marie Thompson, a son, Joseph Patrick Thompson, brothers, Raymond Thompson, Eugene Thompson, and J.B. "Hank" Thompson; and sisters, Mildred Mattingly, Mary Beverly Haire, Virginia Hardy, Margaret Scherm, and Martha Howard.
He was the farm manager of the TJ Bartlett Farm for 40 years before retiring in October of 1993. Leo was recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and accomplished farmers in Daviess County. He was also active in parish and diocesan organizations, very supportive of Catholic Schools, and had a daily routine of mass and rosary. He was a very devoted father and husband and gave a great example to his children and grandchildren by adapting gracefully to the loss of his sight during the last 20 years of his life.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Sue (Bill) Kathman of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Dorothy (Rick Carty) Garlough of Ontario, Canada, Theresa (David) Burt of Lexington, Monica (Herb) Blackburn of Cincinnati, Carol (Duncan) Taylor of Lexington, and Lisa (Bernie) Dotsey of Owensboro; sons, Phillip (Landis) Thompson of Henderson, Gary (Donna) Thompson of Frankfort, and Shelby (Mary Ann) Thompson of Owensboro; 33 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul Thompson and Charles Thompson; and a sister, Patsy Clayton all of Owensboro.
Funeral Mass will be Noon on Friday, August 16, 2013 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Father Bruno Ruel officiating followed by burial in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday with the Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation on Friday after 10 a.m.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Mass offerings or donations to Owensboro Catholic Schools.
