Henry E. O'Bryan

Henry E. O'Bryan, 90, of Owensboro passed away at his home Sunday, October 11. A son of the late Henry E. and Louise Medley O'Bryan, he graduated from St. Francis Academy in 1943. Mr. O'Bryan enlisted in the United States Army in December of that year. Serving in the European Theatre of Operations, he saw action in The Ardennes, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was engaged in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded three Bronze Stars. Following his discharge in 1946, Mr. O'Bryan attended the University of Dayton before returning to Owensboro to join Owensboro Grain where he spent his career, retiring as Executive Vice-President. Mr. O'Bryan was a life-long member of St. Stephen Cathedral and had served on the board of directors of Citizens State Bank. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife and best friend Mary Williams LaRue O'Bryan in 2007, his brother Parker Medley O'Bryan, and his sister Ann O'Bryan Bresler.

Mr. O'Bryan is survived by his sons Henry E. O'Bryan, III, Dr. William M. O'Bryan and his wife Sherry, and Frank O'Bryan, all of Owensboro, Stephen L. O'Bryan and his wife Ann of Naples, FL, and James E. O'Bryan and his wife Laura, of Snellville, GA; his grandchildren Katherine Erin O'Bryan of Chicago, Dr. Kevin W. O'Bryan of Portland, OR, Matthew M. O'Bryan and his wife Lauren of Atlanta, Kelly O'Bryan Schmidt and her husband Barry of Palatine, IL, Marianne O'Bryan Jeanes and her husband Sean of Allen, TX, Gregory Michael O'Bryan and his wife Marci of Lexington, Scott Lewis O'Bryan and his wife Ashley of Cincinnati, James Spencer O'Bryan of Owensboro and John Parker O'Bryan of Lexington; and his great-grandchildren Megan Elizabeth Schmidt, Bryan Henry Schmidt, Lindsay Mina Schmidt, Jonathan Lane Jeanes, Michael Joseph Jeanes, Emerson Grant O'Bryan, and Lane Medley O'Bryan. He also leaves his devoted caregivers Evelyn Oliver, Tammy Bartlett, Karen Wing, Nancy Jones, Charlene Damin, Lee Bruner and Jim and Charlotte Canary.

The funeral Mass for Mr. O'Bryan will be 12:00 noon Wednesday at St. Stephen Cathedral. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday with prayers at 6:00 p.m., and from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The St. Joseph Peace Mission or the Salvation Army.
