Henry M. Morgan, 93, of Utica, passed away Sunday, January 18, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 5, 1932, to the late Gus and Christine Morgan.
Henry proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, embodying the values of honor and commitment that came with this service.
An alumnus of the University of Kentucky, Henry graduated in 1958, having previously completed his studies at Utica High School in 1950. His education laid a strong foundation for a life devoted both to learning and practical application.
Henry's career was storied and impactful. He served as the Director of the Kentucky Oil and Gas Division from 1974 to 1989, a period during which he played a pivotal role in shaping energy policies and practices within the state. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the owner of Geo-X, where he continued to contribute his expertise to the industry. His legacy in the drilling and trucking sectors through Morgan Bros Drilling and Trucking remains a testament to his hard work and determination.
Beyond his career and military service, Henry had a profound interest in his community and its resources. He actively contributed to the Kentucky Geological Survey and was a dedicated member of the Ohio County Water Board and the Daviess County School Board. His involvement extended to the Ensor Masonic Lodge 729 and the Audubon Beekeepers Association, reflecting his diverse interests and commitment to service.
In his leisure time, Henry was an avid house-boater who cherished the beauty of the outdoors. He found joy in wildlife observation, hunting, and fishing, passionately enjoying the natural world around him.
In addition to his parents, Henry is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Morgan; brother, Robert Morgan; and sister, Faye Jackson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 75 years, Joan Morgan; daughter, Christina Morgan; sister, Gayle Hayden (Roy); brothers, Rev. Herschel Morgan (Sherry) and Jerry Morgan; grandchildren, Chad Logsdon (Holly), Adam Logsdon (Jenni), Natalie Anderson (Jay), Nathan Morgan (Rachel); nine great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Henry will be 4 PM Friday, January 23, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12 PM until 3:30 at the funeral home.
