Henry Hodskins, 85, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, August 15, 2013 at his home following a brief illness. Born in Daviess County, Mr. Hodskins was a mail carrier for 25 years before he became president and chief executive officer of the Owensboro Federal Credit Union. He was devoted to his family and his church, positive in his outlook, and always there for those who needed him. An active member of The Parish of the Immaculate Catholic Church, he served as the parish administrator following his retirement from the credit union. His other activities with his church included service on the parish council, as a Eucharistic minister, as a member of the Men's Club and the Over 50 Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. Mr. Hodskins served two terms as Owensboro city commissioner. Active in the community, he was the first chairman of the Barbecue Festival and served in that capacity for several years, was a member of the Owensboro Metropolitan Planning Commission, the first chairman of the Owensboro Consumers Affairs Commission and was appointed by then-Governor Wendell Ford as a member of the governor's Consumer Affairs Commission. Mr. Hodskins was a United States Army veteran. He loved wood working and crafted the lectern at his church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Mary Elizabeth Holinde Hodskins; his brothers Eugene Hodskins, Ivo Hodskins, Herman Hodskins and Paul Hodskins; and his sisters, Anna Cecilia Hodskins and Frances Cecilia Hodskins.
Mr. Hodskins is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Jean Payne Hodskins; his son Ed Hodskins (Karen) of Owensboro; his daughters, Gail Thompson (Paul) of Owensboro, Anna Monarch (Don) of Knoxville, and Stephanie Broughton (Steve) of Cincinnati; his grandchildren, Andrea Hodskins Clark (Brandon) and Laura Hodskins Bouslog (Chad) of Indianapolis, Matthew Hodskins (Jessica) of Cincinnati, Dr. Tristan Thompson of Lexington, Wesley Monarch and Ella Grace Monarch of Knoxville, Benjamin Broughton, Bailey Broughton, and Nicholas Broughton of Cincinnati; his great-grandchildren, Audrey Hodskins and Graham Hodskins, both of Cincinnati, and his brother, Jim Hodskins of Owensboro.
The funeral mass for Mr. Hodskins will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at The Parish of the Immaculate Catholic Church. Visitation at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Sunday and from 8:30 until 9:30 a.m. Monday, where prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Immaculate Catholic Church Capital Fund.
