Henry Francis (Frank) Green and his twin sister, Elizabeth Ann, were born on May 7, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky to the late John M. Green and Ruth Rowland Green of Spencer County, Kentucky. Frank Green passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 4, 2025, in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Frank made the Dean’s List at Western Kentucky University for several semesters while completing his Bachelor of Science degree. He received a Master of Arts from Western Kentucky University while serving as a Graduate Assistant.
He retired after 30 years with the Daviess County Schools as a teacher at Apollo Junior High which later became Apollo High School. Frank served 4 years in the United States Air Force.
He worked at Mammoth Cave National Park as a Seasonal Employee Tour Guide for 13 summers, where he was chosen as “Guide of the Year” by his fellow Guides in 1980. He was later chosen as “Best Overall Seasonal for 1986 Mammoth Cave National Park, August 21, 1986” by the supervisors. He also worked at Glacier National Park in Montana in the summer of 1987 as a Seasonal Employee. Frank Henry, as he was known at Mammoth Cave, was honored to be invited back, after being away for 20 years, to guide the 3 mile, 3 hour Violet City Lantern Tour. His sense of humor was well known while working at Mammoth Cave.
He was a long time Elder and active member of Century Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for many years. He was a member of the church, at Century Christian for at least 40 years and taught Sunday school classes, both for youths and adults for at least 20 years. He served as moderator of the West Area of Kentucky Board of the Christian Church. Frank also served as part of the Regional Board of the Christian Church in Kentucky. Frank was a past member of the board of directors of Boulware Mission. He was active with Habitat for Humanity of Owensboro-Daviess County.
Many knew that Mr. Green dealt with Parkinson’s for many years. He had told many that he was able to “deal with Parkinson’s because of 4 things in his life: FAITH, FAMILY & FRIENDS, HUMOR and DETERMINATION”.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Green Strain and his twin sister Elizabeth Green Barr.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Brenda Ray Green, and twin daughters, Laura Kay Green and Linda Ann Green, of Owensboro, as well as his brother John R. Green of Ravenna, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 10:00 AM at First Christian Church, 700 J R Miller Blvd, Owensboro, KY 42303, where visitation will begin at 9:00 AM.
Visitation will be on Friday March 7, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory at 900 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303.
