Helen Louise Smith "Lou" Scherm

Helen Louise Smith "Lou' Scherm, 94, of Henderson, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2016 at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson. She was born April 5, 1922 in Daviess Co. to the late Ben and Mary Beatrice Culver Smith. Lou was the youngest of nine children. She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and had worked at General Electric. Lou enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, and caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her husband F. E. "Bill" Scherm on April 20, 1986, a daughter, Mary Margaret Yeckering in 2002, and siblings, Bernard Smith, Catherine Chapman Bryant, Jo Smith, Katie Bell Jarnigan, Golda Mae Chapman, Pauline Ferguson, Raymond Smith, and Margaret Billingsley.

Lou is survived by a daughter, Paula (Rev. Ted) Burke of Henderson, four grandchildren, Jim (Jennifer) Yeckering of Owensboro, Glenn (Sophia) Yeckering, Lexy Tretter (Ari) Lurie of San Francisco, CA, and Phillip Tretter of Henderson, seven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, a son-in-law, Jimmy Yeckering of Owensboro, a sister-in-law, Opal Smith of Owensboro, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be Noon Saturday, January 14, at Immaculate Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Friday and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her caregivers, Laurie Booze and Tracey Fischbeck for their love and compassionate care they gave Mrs. Scherm.
