It is with deep sorrow—and profound gratitude for a life well lived—that we announce the passing of Helen Elizabeth Patrick Miller on October 25, 2026, at Owensboro Health Hospital. She died peacefully with her family by her side. A beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and loyal friend, Helen was a devout Christian who deeply loved her church.
Helen was born on April 29, 1934, and spent her 92 years contentedly on her family farm in Daviess County, Kentucky. Designated a Kentucky Historic Farm, the property has been owned by the Patrick family since 1865. Helen proudly honored and preserved this family heritage.
She was the first-born daughter of the late Robert Edward Patrick III and Cordia Kirk Patrick. Her birth brought comfort to the family after her brothers, Robert Allen Patrick and Melvin Raymond Patrick, died just days before her arrival.
A 1952 graduate of Daviess County High School, Helen continued coordinating reunions and reconnecting with members of her graduating class until her death.
On Palm Sunday, April 11, 1954, Helen married the love of her life, Richard Byron Miller, a native of Breckinridge County, Kentucky at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky. During 72 faithful and loving years together, Helen and Richard made their home on the family farm. Their family was completed by two beloved and talented daughters, Peggy and Sherry.
Helen retired after 35 years of service at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, including her last position with Pastoral Care Services where her care and Christian compassion were devoted to the spiritual needs of those who were ill. In her work life, she was valued for her kindness, attention to detail and skill as a typist. Committed to lifelong learning, she also completed several courses in secretarial services and computers.
Helen loved her family, friends, church, and community and treasured the role each played in her life. She enjoyed reading, tending her yard and flower gardens, and collecting antiques. She remained closely connected with family and friends, composing many beautiful and heartfelt notes over the years.
At the time of her death, Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Owensboro and participated in the former Beacon Sunday School Class and, more recently, the Explorer Sunday School Class. Before moving her membership to First Baptist Church, she was a 50-year member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
A lifelong and proud Kentuckian, Helen was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel for goodwill and service to her community and the Commonwealth. She was also a member of Goel Chapter 104, Order of the Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents and her brothers Robert Allen Patrick and Melvin Raymond Patrick, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers Charles Thomas Patrick and Larry Edward Patrick.
