Hazel Ruth Carter Gray, 88, of 3314 Jefferson St., Owensboro, died Sunday, February 10, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Hopkins County, Kentucky on June 2, 1913 the daughter of Alfred G. and Mary Davis Riggs. Her husbands, John Raymond Carter in 1953 and Darrell Gray on Oct. 27, 1984 preceded her in death. A daughter, Jackie Rae Carter Goetz, also preceded her in death on June 1, 1999.
Mrs. Gray was retired from American Tobacco Co., worked at Oppenheimer Co., and was a member of Peoples Baptist Church. She enjoyed creative writing, charcoal and pencil sketching, flowers, gardening, bird watching, reading and poetry.
Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Diann Carter Dahill and Julia Kay Carter Davisson, both of Owensboro; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry D. Riggs of Dawson Springs; and a sister, Estelle Barnes of Princeton.
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2002 at Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Reverend Jerry Rice. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2002 and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
