Hazel Wade Chapman

April 28, 1916 — March 19, 2006

Hazel Wade Chapman, 89, passed peacefully in her sleep Sunday March 19, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System after a brief illness. Born April 28, 1916 in Ohio County, Kentucky, Hazel was a lifelong resident of the Habit community, and still lived in her one and only home since 1937.

Hazel was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church for nearly 70 years where she taught Sunday School, was active in the Bethabara Church quilters group, and the Habit Homemakers Club. A gifted seamtress, she made quilts for all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She sewed and created many Halloween costumes, Easter outfits and Christmas dresses over the years. She loved her flowers and roses and started many from seeds and cuttings from friends and neighbors who had done the same.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rollie, in 1989; a daughter Linda, in 1991; and a son Darien Dink, in 1954.

She is survived by her sons, Bill and his wife, Sharlene of Philpot and Wilson and his wife, Kathryn of Owensboro; three sisters, Florence Walker of Jacksonville, NC, Illa Mae Sandefur and Bennie Pappas and her husband, Jim, both of Plantation, FL; six grandchildren, Tim Chapman and his wife, Susan, Jennifer Bates and her husband, Hunter, Amanda Worth and her husband, Jason, Holly Chapman, Neal Chapman and Patty Ward and her husband, Jason; and nine great-grandchildren.

Hazel was always smiling, sweet-natured and thoughtful, with never a bad word to say of anyone. She was blessed with many friends and family who adored her, and an active life free of most illness.

Services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and after 10:00 AM Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children, P.O. Box 36570, Louisville, KY,40233.
