Harry Lee Wallace, 90, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Charles M. Wallace and Minnie Wallace Atkins.
Mr. Wallace was a WW II infantry veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a Golden Glove Boxing Champion whose duty included entertaining the troops through boxing exhibition tours.
Harry owned and operated Wallace Antenna Tower Service for over forty years. In his early years he served as a deacon at Walnut Street Baptist Church. Harry served as a Hospice of Western Kentucky volunteer for more than twelve years following his wife's death in 2000.
He was an avid golfer for over forty years. His golfing accomplishments included several tournament wins and three holes-in-one. He also enjoyed passing along his knowledge of the game through private lessons. Harry played his last round in September at the age of 90.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Geneva Alvey Wallace; a sister, Betty Fultz; and a brother, Fred Wallace.
Harry is survived by four sons, Larry Lee Wallace of Independence, Ricky Alan Wallace and his wife Gail, Jeff Dale Wallace and Mike Wallace and his wife Teresa, all of Owensboro; a sister, Nancy Baize; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his friend and former spouse, Anna Faye Wallace.
The funeral service will be 10 AM Monday, February 20th at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Harry's longtime friend and golfing buddy, Rev. Jerry Carter, will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 until 5 PM and after 9 AM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
