Harold O. "Hal" Schroeder, Sr., 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at his home. He was born on July 19, 1926 in Perry Co., IN to the late William H. and Lola Winchell Schroeder. Hal was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and also had been in the Merchant Marines. He also played semi-pro baseball for the former Tell City Grays in the late 40's and 50's having competed against some of the former Cincinnati Reds players of that time. While playing basketball, he participated on some exhibition teams against the Harlem Globtrotters. He epitomized the phrase "Family Man" and relished every opportunity to vacation and visit with his family.
