Harold L. Philpott

Harold L. Philpott, a barber for 55 years, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014 at The Heartford House, just an hour before the funeral service for his great-grandson Kaleb Lewis Philpott-Kost. He was 74 years old. Harold was born and raised in Meade County, Kentucky, the son of the late Morgan Laure and Jane Meador Philpott and graduated from Irvington High School. He then began working at Ft. Knox while attending the Kentucky School of Barbering at night. Upon graduating from barbering school he moved to Owensboro and opened his first shop in 1962, cutting hair in the front of the building and sleeping in the back. Harold introduced men's hairstyling to the area and was a trainer for the Roffler system. His innovation led to successful participation in many competitions. He expanded his practice into the custom fitting of men's hairpieces with the New Man organization. For many years, Harold served on the Kentucky Board of Barbering. He was also involved in residential real estate holdings. Harold was a member of Deliverance Christian Center, Masonic Lodge #130 F&AM, and the Rizpah Shrine, was a Kentucky Colonel and in its heyday a regular participant with the Executive Inn Roundtable. The Philpott family is grateful for the exceptional care extended by Hospice of Western Kentucky and The Heartford House.

Harold is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda Brackett Philpott; his sons, D. Steven Philpott and his wife Ann Woolwine Philpott, and Kevin Lewis Philpott; his grandchildren, Ashley Philpott, Sierra Philpott, Austin Philpott, and Grayson Philpott ; and his great-grandsons Kamryn Kost and Jadyn Kost, all or Owensboro.

The funeral service for Harold Philpott, officiated by Brother Mike Brown, will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Deliverance Christian Center.
