Harlan L. Best, 72, of Owensboro passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Born January 13, 1938 in Daviess County, he was the son of the late Hal and Mary Lewis Best. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dean Best. Harlan served in the Army, worked for Velvet Milk Company, and Owensboro Municipal Utilities. After retiring from OMU, he continued his love for model railroading by expanding his train layout and loved to share it with many local groups, and even with those as far away as Russia. He was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church.

Harlan is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Nancy J. Hardesty Best; a special niece, Tami and her husband Hershel Morgan II and their children Ryan and Derek; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday evening with Father Bruce McCarty officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky or the American Cancer Society.
