Harford Wall Ranson

Harford Wall Ranson, 93, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his home. Born in Delaware, Daviess Co, KY, a son of the late Edgar and Eunice McFarland Ranson, he was raised on the family farm. He was an accomplished athlete, having played baseball and basketball at West Louisville High School and later was a coach in various leagues including his church teams. Mr. Ranson retired from General Electric after 32 years, where he was an electrician and union steward. He was a member of the former Third Street Methodist Church and later St. John United Methodist Church and its Men's Bible Class, was Mason for more than 62 years as a member of Owensboro Lodge #130 F&AM and was the mayor of Airport Road. Also preceding him in death were his son, James W. Ranson; and his brothers, Harold Ranson and Bobby Ranson.

He is survived by his wife, Emma Bell Cauley Ranson, to whom he would have been married 74 years the 17th of this month; his daughter Sharon Sauer and her husband Presley, of Owensboro; his grandchildren, Sondra Jones of Owensboro, Stacy (Dannis) Hughbanks of Pee Wee Valley, Jenny (Dan) Higgins of Orlando, and James (Christy) Sauer and John (Nicole) Sauer, both of Stanley; his great-grandchildren, Emily Jones, Sarah Jones, Meredith Miles, Linzy Sauer, Lexy Sauer, Kathlyn Sauer, Elizabeth Sauer, Jackson Higgins, Emma Higgins, Luke Higgins, Will Higgins, and Lauren Higgins; his brother, John Courtland (Elsie) Ranson, of Evansville; his sister, Elva Ranson, of Delaware; and his sister-in-laws Bessie Cooper of Owensboro, Rev. Doris Ranson of Delaware .

The funeral service for Mr. Ranson, officiated by the Rev. Peggy Smith, will be 2:00 p.m. Monday at St. John United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory and from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday at the church. Entombment will be in Christ Chapel Mausoleum at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the memorial fund of St. John United Methodist Church.
