Hal L. Freeman

Hal L. Freeman, 71, died Thursday, October 23, 2008, at the Owensboro Medical Health System, after a short illness. A native of Bennettsville, SC, he was born on February 24, 1937, and was a graduate of Bennettsville High School. He married Sylvia Ross in November 1958 in Calhoun. He was an 11 year Veteran of the US Army and a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne, and a tank commander, with the 179th Separate Armored Brigade, while serving in Germany. He was a member of the American Legion, retired from Lewis Brothers Bakery and had been a contractor for many years. He was of the Methodist Faith, and a "Big Blue" fan.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Sylvia; his sons, Matthew Ross Freeman, and his wife, Kim of Owensboro, Hal L. Freeman, Jr., and his wife, Teresa of Jackson, TN, a foster son, Harry Ray Robbins, and his wife, Jackie of Dayton, OH; his brothers and sisters of Bennettsville, SC, and four grandchildren.

Services will be private, according to his wishes. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family acknowledges the caring treatment by the staff of Owensboro Medical Health System, and his wonderful physicians, Dr. David Johnson, Dr. Gupta and Dr. Davis. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John United Methodist Church, 2160 Griffith Ave, Owensboro, KY 42301, or to the Humane Society of Owensboro-Daviess County, P.O. Box 1075, Owensboro, KY 42302.
