H. Warren Hartsough, 94, of Owensboro and Naples, FL died Wednesday, March 11, 2015, in Naples. Born January 22, 1921, in Canton, OH, to the late Homer Daniel Hartsough and Clara Louise Summer Hartsough, he graduated with a B.S. degree in geology from the University of Mount Union located in Alliance, OH.
In 1948 Mr. Hartsough was employed by R. E. Hupp and H.C. Hume as a geologist. In 1950 he located and was instrumental in developing one of the largest oilfields in Henderson County, known as Zion. He helped discover the Midland Gas Field located in Muhlenberg County, which now serves as the main gas storage field for Texas Gas Transmission Co. Mr. Hartsough became an original shareholder and President of Har-Ken Oil Company and Crescent Drilling Company in 1960. His professional associations include the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, American Petroleum Institute, and the Kentucky Oil and Gas Association, for which he served as president of for two years. He sat on the boards of the former Citizens State Bank, Owensboro National Bank, and BB&T Bank. He was a Trustee of the RiverPark Foundation and a former Trustee and Elder of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hartsough later joined Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and attended the Third Baptist Church. A veteran of World War II, he served as a First Lieutenant for the 384th Bomb Group in England and France, during which time he was active in aerial photography and its analysis. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane F. Hartsough, and his sister, Virginia Hartsough.
Survivors include his wife, Louise L. Hartsough, his son, Gregory W. Hartsough and his wife Susan of Owensboro; his daughter, Nancy J. Miller and her husband Greg of Dallas, TX; his grandchildren, Dr. Sarah Hartsough Callahan, Dr. Richard Hartsough, Rebecca Hartsough, Philip Mui, Joanna Hayes, and Jillian Hayes; and his great-grandchildren, Harrison Callahan, Logan Callahan, and Jane Callahan.
Services will be at 12:00 noon Monday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday and after 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Settle Memorial United Methodist Church, Third Baptist Church, or the University of Mount Union.
