Gwendalyn M. Coomes

November 24, 1933 — March 3, 2006

Gwendalyn M. Coomes, 72, of 323 Swordfish Dr., Owensboro, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Carmel Home. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and was retired as a retail salesperson. She was a member of St. Stephen Cathedral and the Army of Mary. She enjoyed walking and flower gardening. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Louis Benjamin.

Surviving is her husband of nine years, Raymond Coomes, two daughters, Lucienne Lehman of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and Yvonne McElven of Aldersgate, British Columbia, Canada, two sons, John Benjamin and Robert Benjamin, both of Calgary, Canada, a stepdaughter, Rita Blanford of Louisville, and three stepsons, Dr. James A. Coomes of Owensboro, Vincent Coomes of Lawrenceburg, Ky. and Michael Coomes of Newburgh, In., and a brother, Tony Gelley of Ontario, Canada, and six grandchildren and nine stepgrandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 7, at St. Stephen Cathedral with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Monday with Army of Mary prayers at 5:00 P.M. and parish prayers at 6:00 P.M. and visitation continuing after 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home.
