Guy Moorman Deane Jr.

Dr. Guy Moorman Deane, Jr, Th.D, 88, of Owensboro, KY, died Thursday, February 28, 2013, at his home. He was born on July 13, 1924 in Owensboro, KY to the late Guy M. and Ruby Belle Harreld Deane. He attended Longfellow School, Central Junior High School and graduated from Owensboro Senior High School. He was married to his loving wife, Eulah May Wells, of Livia, KY, on September 13, 1954, by Rev. J. D. Herndon, at the Buck Creek Baptist Church, where Guy served as pastor. He served as a gospel minister for more than 60 years, and was the first candidate for baptism at the Buena Vista Baptist Church building.

Guy served his country during World War II as a second class petty officer in the Navy. He was on the Attack Transport carrying troops on the General George Owen Squire AP-130, and during his years in service was in the Pacific and South Pacific, Panama, Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea and took part in the invasion of Southern France.

Guy attended Georgetown College, and graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with a Bachelor Degree in Religious Education, a Master of Divinity, and a Doctorate of Theology from Luther Rice Seminary. He served as a pastor in Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Tennessee and was the first minister of the Seventh Street Mission of the Crabtree Baptist Church (Ridgewood Baptist Church), First Baptist Church in Springfield LA, First Baptist Church in Martin, KY, Campton Baptist Church in Campton, KY, First Baptist Church in Jenkins, KY, Buck Creek Baptist Church, Fordsville Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion, KY, Maceo Baptist Church, Central Baptist Church, in Hawesville and a number of interim ministries. He served on many local boards including the Kentucky Baptist Convention Nominating Committee for five terms, Assistant Moderator of the Enterprise Association in KY, and Treasurer and Chairman of Evangelism in five different associations. He also was Past President of the Kentucky Alumni Association for Cumberland College and also served on their relations board. He gave financial assistance and his time to a number of Christian students in college and seminary and helped many young ministers by furnishing encouragement and libraries.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eulah May Wells; children, Donald Clark Deane (Anna) and Elizabeth Lynn Deane Staples (James); sister, Deanna Deane Miller (Hal); brother Silas Edward Deane (Ann); grandchildren, Donald Deane, Jr., Amber Renee' Deane, Stephanie Deane Day, Robert Keith Floyd, William Bradley Floyd, and Brian Deane Floyd; seven great-grandchildren ; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the hospital, hospice and all of the nurses.

Services will be 1 p.m. on Monday at Yellow Creek Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Sunday from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to First Baptist Church of Owensboro, Yellow Creek Baptist Church and the YMCA.
