Gustav Wendel

March 23, 1931 — August 9, 2003

Gustav Gus Wendel, 72, of Owensboro, died Saturday, August 9, 2003 at the Bon Harbor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The Tampa, Fl native was a retired pilot working for International Paper Company in New York, Owensboro Aviation for 18 years and Har-Ken Oil, Conquest Limited for 13 years. He served in the Army Reserve retiring as a Captain with over 21 years total service on active duty in the Air Force and in reserve status with the Army Reserves, Coast Guard, and Army National Guard. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Potts McQueen Wendel in 1995.

He is survived by two daughters, Meg P. Wendel of Owensboro; Lourdes Wendel of Manchester, NJ; a step-daughter, Becky McQueen Coffman of Owensboro; 2 step-grandchildren, Misty Lee Coffman and Sarah Ann Coffman of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 1P.M. Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at the Glenn Funeral Chapel with burial in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2-7 P.M. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 and after 10 A.M. on Wednesday.
