Grover Cleveland Phillips, 89, of Owensboro passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at his home. Mr. Phillips was born August 6, 1927 in Muhlenberg County to the late Ivy Phillips and Kate Barr Phillips. He served honorably as an Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Phillips loved to go to flea markets, find and refurbish old tools, was very mechanical and could fix cars and lawn mowers and was employed at Don Phillips Auto Salvage. He was a devoted husband and father, always helped other people and known as a big kidder.
Mr. Phillips also was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Jeanette Mackey in 2004; sons, Grover Jr. and Joseph Phillips; brothers, Chester and Cortland Phillips.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Barbara Blanchard Phillips; sons, Lucian Phillips and wife Becky of Breman, Johnny Phillips of Whitesville, Michael Phillips and wife Helen of Owensboro; daughters, Teresa Moore and husband James of Livermore, Patricia Kennedy and husband Jim of Madisonville, Kim Bowlds and husband Larry and Janet Horne and husband Walt both of Owensboro; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two "dog-kids", Brownie and Bud; numerous nieces and nephews.
The service will be 10 AM Thursday, September 15 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Harry Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM and Thursday from 8:30 AM.
