Griffith Edward Lighton, Sr., formerly of Owensboro, passed away in Louisville, October 28, 2015 at the age of 82. Born in New York City, the son of the late Jerome Joseph and Ruth Ridgley Griffith Lighton, he was the retired owner of Bernard Jewelers in Owensboro, a certified diamond consultant and former district manager for Kay's Jewelers, and had been the owner of Bernard's Clothing in Owensboro, Bowling Green and Tell City. Mr. Lighton was a member of Temple Adath Israel in Owensboro. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #130, the Scottish Rite, a Shriner, and Kentucky Colonel. Preceding him in death were his wife, Maryanna Gerber Lighton, his son, Todd Gerber Lighton, his daughter, Mary Ridgley Statts, and his granddaughter, Dana Statts.
Mr. Lighton is survived by his son, Griffith Lighton, Jr. of Owensboro, his grandsons Tim Statts of Louisville, Nathan Statts (Amanda) of Louisville, Richard Statts of Henderson, granddaughter Carla Statts Swanagan (Kevin) of Owensboro, a niece, Shelby Lighton of Owensboro, and a nephew, Jerry Lighton (Pam) of Aledo, Illinois.
The service for Mr. Lighton will be at 12:00 noon Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and after 10:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Cemetery Adath Israel. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
